Job Description

About GA4GH

The Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) is a global standards development organisation dedicated to realising the potential of genomics in health. Supported by  staff across four Host Institutions (Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, Broad Institute, Wellcome Sanger Institute, and EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute), members of the volunteer community provide expert leadership to GA4GH Work Streams, Partner Engagement communities, and other entities such as the GA4GH Strategic Leadership Committee (SLC).

We would like to invite expressions of interest in the volunteer role of Strategic Leadership Committee Member.

About the role

Established in early 2024, the SLC is a new committee that will help steer the overall direction of GA4GH. The SLC will consist of 5-10 individuals with significant experience — most likely previous leadership experience — within GA4GH who will help determine, implement, and advance the GA4GH strategic vision. This includes providing strategic insight and input into activities and concerns raised to the SLC by the community. The SLC will brainstorm together to inform GA4GH’s areas of engagement and approaches to achieve its goals, learning from past experiences and bringing new ideas and communities to the table.

Why join us

GA4GH accelerates progress in human health by building tools that expand responsible, effective, and democratised use of genomic and clinical data. With a global volunteer community made up of hundreds of individuals from a variety of organisations and institutions, GA4GH provides an active environment in which to drive these aims forward while building on our foundational commitments to human rights, ethics, and security.

Having a truly global and diverse community of contributors and leadership is key to GA4GH’s work. We are actively pursuing strategies to increase participation through our engagement and equity, diversity, and inclusion work. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all contributors at all levels and welcome expressions of interest from all interested individuals.

Requirements

You will need…

  • a forward looking vision for GA4GH and, more broadly, federated genomic data sharing, access, and analysis based on open data standards;
  • substantial experience working in GA4GH, most likely having previously held a formal leadership position such as Work Stream Co-Lead or Driver Project Champion
  • substantial experience with any of the following areas: genomics, bioethics, biomedical informatics, standards development, data sharing regulation or related disciplines;
  • the ability to work effectively with and provide leadership to a broad range of people from multiple disciplines and cultures;
  • the ability to engage with others, explore multiple points of view, and build consensus;
  • a demonstrable ability to work collaboratively and inspire others to work together across traditional institutional boundaries;
  • bandwidth to join SLC Zoom meetings every other month, biannual in-person meetings (GA4GH Plenary and Connect), and quarterly GA4GH Steering Committee meetings.
